Overview
Bingo Caller runs a full bingo night from one laptop. The balls are still drawn by hand, so the game keeps its feel, and the app takes care of everything around the draw: announcing numbers, showing them to the hall, checking claims and keeping records.
It has two screens. The caller works from a focused console, and the hall watches a TV display built like a lotto broadcast, with an animated 3D ball, a lit board, sponsor branding and an intermission screen between games.
Who it's for
Band clubs, parish halls and community groups in Malta that run bingo nights, mainly the volunteer calling the numbers and the committee keeping track of games, prizes and takings.
Problem and solution
The problem
At a traditional bingo night the caller reads each number out and players listen for it. Numbers get misheard. People at the back can’t see what has been called. Checking a claim means reading through every called number by hand, and sponsors get little visibility. Once the night ends, there’s no record of what happened.
The club needed numbers announced in both English and Maltese and shown clearly on a TV. Each game needed its own prizes, and the night could not be lost if the laptop crashed or the power cut out mid-game.
The solution
The caller types or taps each number as it’s drawn. The app announces it in English and Maltese, reveals it on the TV with a 3D ball, and saves it the moment it’s called. The console takes the caller through each game in four steps: choose, get ready, live, finished. Numbers can only be called while a game is live, so mistakes before or after a game are impossible.
When someone shouts, a single panel handles the whole claim. The caller checks one or more tickets, confirms the winners, then carries on to House or ends the game. On the TV, the winning ticket fills in number by number and the winning row lights up.
Every call is written to disk straight away and kept as plain files, with restore points. The app was tested by cutting the power mid-game, repeatedly, and nothing was lost. It runs from a single file in the browser, or from a small server that lets the TV run on a separate device.
